The Summerhill
135 West 15th Street, North Vancouver, B.C.
DESCRIPTION
Located on an urban site within City of North Vancouver, this 100,000 SF 110 unit high-rise building was the first seniors residence developed in the Lower Mainland by Pacific Arbour Retirement Communities. It benefited from a transfer of density from the neighboring property and a relaxation of the required quantity of underground parking. The development approval process was a successful collaboration between city staff, the Client and the Architect to introduce into the city centre the desirable community amenity of housing for seniors which is privately funded and viable. Hotel-like features of the project include a grand lobby, a common dining area with commercial kitchen, convivial lounge areas, and recreational amenities, that all welcome the residents and promote social interaction. The brick-clad base of the building, with its expansive wooden-and-glass entry canopy, provides a welcoming well-defined urban streetscape, and the small elevated landscaped courtyard off the lane creates a private oasis for the residents.
