DESCRIPTION

Located on a corner site within easy walking distance of Highgate Mall, this 130,000 SF project by Pacific Arbour Retirement Communities consists of a 15-storey tower with 148 barrier free rental units for seniors and a contiguous low-rise commercial retail component, fronting on Kingsway. The seniors residence offers major amenities to the residents including generous rooftop terraces, a dining room served by a commercial kitchen, and comprehensive common spaces devoted to educational, fitness, arts and social activities. The design responds to seniors’ needs to maintain an active lifestyle and to remain connected with their community, through proximity to the existing commercial development along Kingsway and the adjacent Public Library, and by the integration of business uses helpful to seniors, such as banking and medical services, within the leasable commercial portion of the project. The tower-and-podium building form has a masonry-clad base with large windows and glass canopies creating an evocative street presence, before stepping back to the concrete tower which has a series of projecting concrete slab brise-soleil on the south façade.
